Leni has just arrived in Guatemala to begin her Stride placement. She is based at Oasis, which is one of the sites where Vida para Niños (Kids Alive) operates in Guatemala.
The Oasis ministry provides holistic care and support for girls aged 5 to 17 who have suffered sexual violence. It is a private children’s home (regularly inspected by a government agency and known to be one of the best homes for girls in Guatemala) but with a clear focus on reintegrating the girls into families (safe biological family members or foster families) following a period of holistic care and healing through psychological therapies and discipleship.
At Kids Alive, the team believe firmly that a clear understanding of neuroscience and the Gospel are needed for children to heal from trauma.
Leni will be helping out as a Legal Team Assistant, providing administrative support to the director of legal services which could involve help in preparing paperwork, accompanying children in court appearances, and whatever help they need! This is a new team, so it may evolve as they go.
She will also attend staff devotionals, and possibly case study meetings, or perhaps helping out with day-to-day activities at the home.
